The general stages to obtain a full driving licence in the UK are:
After you pass the theory test, you can book your practical driving test at the centre you prefer. Test centres are usually in or near the area where you live.
Booking the test costs £62. Use the link below to reserve your appointment.
Book your practical driving test hereWhat is the practical driving test?
You can take the test in your own car or your instructor's dual-controlled car. Only book the test when you and your instructor agree you are ready.
At the test centre the examiner will check your driving licence and ask you to read a number plate from 20 metres. If you cannot read it, the test is cancelled and marked as a fail.
Once you are seated in the car the examiner will explain the route and ask you to drive off. The appointment lasts about 40 minutes, with 30–35 minutes of actual driving.
The test begins with a "tell me" vehicle safety question and, while you are driving, you will answer a "show me" controls question such as turning on the wipers. Watch the video below to learn every question.
You can make up to 15 driving faults (minors) but no serious or dangerous faults. Show good understanding of road rules, priorities, and respect for other road users—your instructor will help you build these skills.
How to find a driving instructor?
Before you start preparing for your driving test, you need to find a qualified driving instructor. There are two main ways to find a reliable instructor:
Make sure your instructor is either an ADI or PDI:
Important: Always check that your instructor displays either a green ADI badge or a pink PDI badge in their car windscreen. This badge must show their photo and be clearly visible. If the badge is not displayed, do not take lessons with them as they may be operating illegally. Protect yourself from scam instructors by verifying their credentials.
